Meet the Team for All Sausalito Marin City School Kids

Read in their in own words why each candidate is running for our local school board.

Josh Barrow

Marin City Resident

This is a critical time for our small but growing district. With a diverse student population, our district must wisely allocate our resources to serve the needs of all students. The focus needs to stay on student outcomes, managing a sustainable system, and continuing to increase community participation in our local public schools.

I bring the leadership, expertise, and deep community ties that are key to meeting our challenges. As a Sausalito Marin City School District Trustee since 2012, and Board President for the past two years, I have worked hard to bring balance to a divisive environment. My years of experience on the Board have afforded me an understanding of the complex school financing system, key education code concepts, and our own challenging local history. I am proud to be a 3rd generation Marin City resident and, together with my wife, I am raising two children who attend public school in our district.

As the product of public schools in the Bay Area, who later studied at Harvard University and enjoyed a successful career in technology, I am passionate about public education and giving back to our community.

I humbly ask for your vote.

Jen Conway

Marin City Resident

Our public schools face many challenges, but our district is also blessed with tremendous resources. Our demographic diversity is unmatched in Marin County, and we enjoy nearly $9 million in public revenue for roughly 550 students at two K-8 schools. With strong leadership, we can deliver the high quality education all these students deserve.

As a 13-year Marin City resident and the parent of a public school student, I have sought to apply my experience as a communications professional to broaden the public understanding of the issues our district needs to tackle. For two years, I have attended nearly every district Board meeting and then shared what I learned – about funding, programming, district history and more – through periodic emails to parents and community members.

I will bring new, productive energy to the board. Fiscal responsibility, equity and transparency will be my priorities in delivering the outcomes we all want for Marin City and Sausalito kids. We can get the results our kids deserve if we roll up our sleeves and work together.

I would be honored to receive your vote.

Kurt Weinsheimer

Sausalito Resident

As the product of public education and raised in a family of professional educators, I believe that a high-quality, free education is a fundamental right of every child - and that a community is measured by its ability to uphold that right. The Sausalito/Marin City community has not always fared well by this standard. Though we have made strides in recent years, a great deal of work remains. With the ample public funding we receive, and tremendous human talent around us, our school district should be able to provide excellent education for all its students, no matter which public school they choose. We’re not there yet and it’s my goal to make it happen.

I am passionate about this issue and passionate about this community. My three daughters attend public school here, and I have devoted countless volunteer hours over the past ten years toward improving K-8 education for all local kids. With the knowledge I have gained and my professional experience motivating teams to accomplish clearly identified goals, I will help ensure that we provide every child in our district with the quality education they deserve.

I would be honored to receive your vote.
